Sigmund Freud was born 150 years ago on May 6, 1856 in the Czech city of Pribor. May 6th, 2006 was the 150th anniversary of Freud’s birth and events were underway around the world to celebrate one of the most influential minds of the 20th Century.
Recognised internationally as the Father of Psychoanalysis, Freud and his theories about the human mind and sexuality have also had a profound impact on literature, culture and the Arts to such an extent in fact that psychoanalytic terminology has become assimilated into our everyday speech. The events which were, celebrate the life and work of this great man, but also examine his continuing importance in a world which is only just beginning to really understand the inner workings of the brain and the human psyche.
